A quiet study in movement and balance.
Inspired by the cascading water of Michigan’s Tahquamenon Falls, the Tahquamenon Stool turns a simple seat into an exploration of movement. One broad sheet of bent plywood flows from the seat toward the floor, while a second curved form passes beneath it, creating a silhouette that feels both grounded and unexpectedly light.
Its compact footprint allows the Tahquamenon to move easily through the home. Use it as an entryway perch, an occasional seat at the dining table, a bedside table, or an extra surface beside the sofa. Wherever it lives, its restrained form brings warmth and sculptural presence without adding visual clutter.
Each Tahquamenon Stool is handmade to order in my Leonard, Michigan studio. I begin with 13 layers of sustainably harvested wood veneer, carefully gluing, molding, trimming, sanding, and finishing each piece by hand. The laminated construction gives the stool its strength while allowing the structure to remain slender, with exposed edges that quietly reveal how it was made.
A hand-applied natural oil finish enriches the wood grain and creates a durable, satin surface that resists water and stains. Natural rubber feet keep the stool securely in place while protecting the floor beneath it.
