A study in curves, planes, and useful space.
The Alden Table takes its name and inspiration from architect Alden B. Dow’s Home & Studio in Midland, Michigan. Its intersecting forms and unexpected shifts in direction are translated into two continuous bent plywood planes: one rises to create the tabletop, while the other curves below to form an open shelf.
The result is sculptural, but highly practical. Its compact footprint fits easily beside a sofa, reading chair, or bed, with room on top for a drink, small lamp, or the objects you want close at hand. Books and magazines rest on the lower shelf without adding visual clutter—a deliberate use of space that gives the table its distinctive silhouette.
Each Alden Table is handmade to order in my Leonard, Michigan studio. I begin with 13 layers of sustainably harvested wood veneer, carefully gluing, molding, trimming, sanding, and finishing each component by hand. Laminating the veneers together creates strong, slender forms that would be difficult to achieve in solid wood, while the exposed edges reveal how the table was made.
A hand-applied, natural oil finish enriches the grain while providing a durable, water- and stain-resistant surface. Natural rubber feet help protect your floor and keep the table securely in place.
