The Tahquamenon is a modern bent plywood stool inspired by the cascading water of Michigan’s Tahquamenon Falls.
It turns a simple seat into an exploration of movement. One broad sheet of bent plywood flows from the seat toward the floor, while a second curved form passes beneath it, creating a silhouette that feels both grounded and unexpectedly light.
Its compact footprint allows the Tahquamenon to move easily through the home: as an entryway perch, occasional dining seat, bedside table, or extra surface beside the sofa.
Each Tahquamenon Stool is handmade to order in my Leonard, Michigan studio. I begin with 13 layers of sustainably harvested wood veneer, carefully gluing, molding, trimming, sanding, and finishing the stool by hand. The laminated construction gives it strength while keeping the structure slender, with exposed edges that reveal how it was made.
A hand-applied natural oil finish enriches the wood grain and creates a durable satin surface that resists water and stains. Natural rubber feet keep the stool securely in place while protecting the floor beneath it.
